All about MovieKites, or
How do I read a MovieKite?

Basically, a kite that is very centered indicates a movie that is on the heavy side. And a kite that is very near the outer edges indicates a movie that is lighter, sillier, and more family oriented.

The MovieKite Categories

A rating for each MovieKite category is determined as objectively as possible, with each category considered independently of the others. One look at a kite will give you an overall impression of the movie.

Drama
The Drama rating ranges from serious or depressing at the center of the kite, through romantic, to family oriented at the outer edges of the kite.

Humour
The Humour rating ranges from dark and morbid at the center of the kite, through popular comedy, to silly slapstick at the outer edges of the kite.

Plot
The Plot rating ranges from deep (with a moral or message) at the center of the kite, through contemporary storyline, to disposable fluff at the outer edges of the kite.

Violence
The Violence rating covers physical violence, gunplay, threats, and suggestions of violent acts. The violence rating ranges from extreme at the center of the kite, through mild or suggested, to none at all at the outer edges of the kite.

Action
The Action rating describes the excitement content and pace of the movie. The Action rating ranges from mature subject matter (including sexual content) at the center if the kite, through popular thrills and special effects, to slow as a snail at the outer edges of the kite.

The MovieKite Indicators

Each MovieKite has two types of indicators: a weighted average indicator and a range indicator. The heavy red line shows the overall (weighted average) content of the film. This is not some kind of mathematical average, but rather an indication of the strongest impressions made in each category by the film. The lightly shaded red area shows the extremes of light and heavy content in each category throughout the film. This range shows how light or heavy the film ventures during an individual scene or segment.
